2013 Fall Conference – Speaker Spotlight: Derek Nighbor

Following is the seventh in the series of Speaker Spotlights highlighting speaker details for CHP Canada’s 2013 Fall Conference The Health-Driven Consumer, taking place September 26-27 at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel in Niagara Falls, ON.

The speaker spotlight for week seven is on Mr. Derek Nighbor, Senior Vice President, Food & Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC):

Derek Nighbor is Senior Vice President with Food & Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC).
Founded in 1959, FCPC is the largest and most respected voice of the Canadian food, beverage and consumer products industry.
Derek joined FCPC in January 2009 and oversees the organization’s strategy development in government relations and regulatory affairs, collaboration with the industry’s retail and foodservice partners and membership development.
Previous to joining FCPC, Derek served for three and a half years as Senior Vice President, Public Affairs with Retail Council of Canada (RCC) – the country’s leading association for grocers and general merchandise retailers. From 2000 to 2005, Derek held senior political advisory positions in the Government of Ontario, including two years as Chief of Staff to the province’s Consumer and Business Services Minister.
Derek sits on a number of boards and advisory committees including Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Toronto Grant Review Team, which administers $15 million a year to support charitable organizations in the Greater Toronto Area.
Derek has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an Option in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.

As a speaker on Day 2 of the 2013 Fall Conference, Derek will be presenting on how Canadians are turning more and more to food as a way to help manage their health – and a way to live a healthier lifestyle. Derek will discuss the market for functional foods in Canada, how we are trending against the rest of the world and the role of the federal government in supporting innovation and growth in the industry. He will also discuss broader challenges facing Canada’s food industry and how the industry is responding.
