7 Reasons to Have More Sex

Marvin Gaye knew what he was saying when singing about ‘Sexual Healing’ – it really is good for you and in case you needed an excuse to have more sex, here are seven healthy reasons to say “Let’s Get It On’:

  1. Reduce Stress
    Your blood pressure will react less to stressful activities (like public speaking) than when not having sex, according to a study conducted at the University of Paisley in Scotland. Another reason, according to Robin Milhausen, assistant professor of human sexuality and family relations at the University of Guelph is that “it’s a pleasurable, enjoyable activity and many people sleep better after sex”.
  2. Burn Calories
    We don’t suggest giving up on your exercise routine, but having sex for an hour can burn about 275 calories (for a 150-pound person). That may not be earth-shattering, but the sex could be! In addition, the physical activity brings fresh oxygen to your cells, muscles and organs, which is good for your body.
  3. Help Reduce Pain
    If you have ever used the excuse “Not tonight dear, I have a headache”, you may want to reconsider next time (especially if you really do have a headache!). According to Beverly Whipple, co-author of the book The Science of Orgasm, the hormone oxytocin surges through your body at orgasm and there is a reduction in sensitivity to pain, to about half of that at resting level. As a bonus, if your headache is due to stress, then having sex will be killing-two-birds-with-one-stone!
  4. Boost Your Immunity
    Based on a study where 112 men and women were asked about their frequency of sex, people who have sex once or twice a week have a higher level of the antibody immunoglobulin A (lgA) that protects against colds and flu, according to Carl J. Charnetski, co-author of the book Feeling Good is Good For You. Charnetski also mentions in the study he and other scientists conducted at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA that those who had sex less than once a week, none at all, or more than three times a week, had less levels of the antibody. I guess you really can have too much of a good thing!
  5. Look Younger
    Who doesn’t want to look younger? A 10-year study involving 3500 men and women at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland found that those who reported having sex an average of four times a week looked about 10 years young than they really were. Of course, we don’t recommend giving up the sunscreen and moisturizer, but if having sex can make you appear younger as well – that’s just a bonus!
  6. Lower Men’s Risk of Prostate Cancer
    Findings have shown that men between the age of 20 and 50 who ejaculate more frequently, had a decreased risk of developing prostate cancer. Another study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed consistent results with the findings. In both cases, the possible reason may be that frequent ejaculation prevents carcinogens from building up in the prostatic ducts.
  7. Strengthen Your Relationship
    Just as the oxytocin released during orgasm can help reduce pain, it also brings about pair bonding. Data also shows that sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction are interconnected – if things are going well in the bedroom, that will likely filter through to other areas of your relationship. Couples in good relationships tend to be healthier than their single friends and in addition, will help protect against illnesses and help you to live longer!

Sex may not be able to fix everything, but you can certainly have fun trying!
