Canada’s Science Minister Commits to Advancing our Innovation Agenda

On August 17, CHP Canada President, Karen Proud sat down with the Minister of Science, the Hon. Kirsty Duncan to discuss issues affecting the consumer health products sector and innovation in health.

The minister displayed a clear understanding of the importance of self-care to empower Canadians and improve their quality of life. Furthermore, she had a clear grasp of issues surrounding Rx-to-OTC switch and signalled support for efforts to innovate the switch process.

As a result of their meeting, the minister committed to bring forward our issues to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development—the Honourable Navdeep Bains, who is currently leading the pan-Canadian consultations on innovation while working with provincial counterparts to remove internal barriers to trade and growth.

We currently have a proposal with Minister Bains to organize an innovation roundtable, which would include other stakeholder groups. Minister Duncan will be highlighting and supporting this proposal in discussions with her cabinet counterpart.
