Meet our Associate Member Spotlight for December: The Nielsen Company

The “Associate Member Spotlight” is a chance for CHP Canada to highlight to Active members and the consumer health products industry the Associate members who have contributed to the achievements of CHP Canada and the success of the consumer health products industry as a whole.

Each month a different Associate member will be put in the “spotlight”. This will include being featured on our website homepage, blog, and e-newsletter, outlining the fantastic services and/or products the Associate member has available to our Active membership.

This month’s “Associate Member Spotlight” goes to The Nielsen Company for their continued contributions and long-standing involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry. Congratulations Nielsen!

We conducted a short interview with Jeanne Danubio, Managing Director at The Nielsen Company, which will provide a better understanding of what this great company has to offer:

1. Tell us about The Nielsen Company.

Nielsen is the world’s largest market research company doing business in over 100 countries to provide the most complete view of trends and habits worldwide. Our clients are primarily consumer packaged goods manufacturers and retailers and we help them understand what consumers watch and what they buy. Nielsen is constantly evolving, not only in terms of where we measure, or who we measure, but in how our insights can help companies drive profitable growth.

Whether businesses are a multinational enterprise or a single storefront, we believe innovation is the key to success, in both what you create and how you market your products and ideas. That’s why Nielsen continues to develop solutions to help clients meet the needs of today’s consumers, and find out where they’re headed next.

2. What are the biggest challenges you face as a market research company?

The industry Nielsen supports is struggling for growth and is faced with several marketplace challenges, including the changing face of the Canadian consumer, the consolidation of retail, as well as the declining exchange rate. Nielsen views these challenges as opportunities to help our clients’ effect change. We will do this through the measurement of the total consumer along with a laser focus on the optimization of investments, whether that be innovation, marketing spend or retail price and promotions. Nielsen is poised to help our clients drive outcomes in their business.

3. Tell us one thing about Nielsen that the consumer health products industry might not know about you.

While Nielsen’s core business in Canada is the measurement of sales of consumer packaged goods products, we also serve other industries leveraging a wide array of assets such as our custom research (public opinion research) business (formerly Harris/Decima), with a wealth of experience in public policy and health research.

4. Tell us how you became involved with CHP Canada.

Nielsen as a leader in market research provides thought leadership in the industry on many topics, including Redefining Retail, Growth of Millennials and our 2020 Vision of CPG which we have shared at various CHP conferences.
We believe our role is to help our clients grow by understanding the markets and consumers they serve and who better to assist with that than a company with 80 years of experience in measuring these markets.
