Meet our Associate Member Spotlight for June: Norton Rose Fulbright
This month’s Spotlight is Norton Rose Fulbright for their continued contributions and involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry.
1. Describe your business, your clients and the products/services you provide.
Norton Rose Fulbright is a global law firm with locations in more than 50 cities around the world. In Canada, we have offices in Montréal, Toronto, Guelph, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Quebec City.
As a firm, we distinguish ourselves from many other Canadian law firms due to our global reach and our industry focus, including in the life sciences and healthcare sector. Our Canadian life sciences and healthcare team has a strong reputation for working with an array of innovative pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies, including many CHP Canada members. We are known for our industry focus and market-leading legal advice.
Our industry-centered approach allows us to bring together lawyers, patent agents, trademark agents and other legal staff who focus beyond the legal dimensions of our client’s businesses, and to focus on the life sciences and healthcare industries more broadly. This allows us to ensure that our advice is commercially sound, consistent with trends in the industry and considers future developments.
We advise clients on a full range of their legal issues, including intellectual property, deals and transactions, commercial, consumer protection, regulatory, product liability, employment, competition, marketing and advertising.
Many of our lawyers and professionals have scientific backgrounds enabling us to advise on all aspects of a product’s life cycle, from innovation, development, commercialisation and exploitation, through to contentious proceedings before the courts and regulatory authorities.
2. Describe how your business benefits the OTC/self-care market.
We advise clients in the OTC/self-care market on a full range of their legal issues, from intellectual property protection, licensing deals and transactions, commercial, consumer protection, regulatory, product liability, employment, competition, marketing and advertising.
3. What innovative new products/services are you working on?
Our goal is to be an innovator in the legal sector, and we invest heavily in technology and innovation. For example, we have recently embarked on a strategic alliance with legal technology company SYKE Legal Engineering to create NRF SYKE. The alliance combines legal advice and document automation services for our clients and forms part of our global change and innovation program NRF Transform. We have developed Chatbots to answer questions relating to privacy legislation and amendments to the Trade-marks Act. Through our global risk advisory group, we leverage our industry experience with our knowledge of legal, regulatory, compliance and governance issues to provide our clients with practical solutions to the legal and regulatory risks facing their businesses. We have a dedicated team of individuals in a number of global innovation hubs looking for ways to use technology to help our clients operate in a complicated and rapidly changing legal framework.
4. Tell us about your people. What sets them apart from your competition?
Our industry-centred approach differentiates us in that we bring together lawyers, patent agents, trademark agents and other legal staff whose focus is on the industry looking beyond the legal dimensions of our client’s businesses to focus on the life sciences and healthcare industries more broadly. Our industry focus allows us to anticipate trends and provide advice that is consistent with industry developments.
5. Describe your mission and vision, and why your company makes a great business partner.
Wherever we are, we operate in accordance with our global business principles of quality, unity and integrity. We aim to provide the highest possible standard of legal service in each of our offices and to maintain that level of quality at every point of contact. Recognized for our industry focus, we know the life sciences and healthcare industry and can work with our clients to achieve their goals.
