Meet our Associate Member Spotlight for January: Nova Pack Ltd.
The “Associate Member Spotlight” is a chance for CHP Canada to highlight to Active members and the consumer health products industry the Associate members who have contributed to the achievements of CHP Canada and the success of the consumer health products industry as a whole.
Each month a different Associate member will be put in the “spotlight”. This will include being featured on our website homepage, blog, and e-newsletter, outlining the fantastic services and/or products the Associate member has available to our Active membership.
This month’s “Associate Member Spotlight” goes to Nova Pack Ltd. for their continued contributions and long-standing involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry. Congratulations Nova Pack!
We conducted a short interview with James Houghton, President of Nova Pack Ltd., which will provide a better understanding of what this great company has to offer:
1. Tell us about Nova Pack Ltd.
Nova Pack began operations in 1990 as a member company of the Hughes Group. The three other companies in the group were a corrugated-packaging converter (box manufacturing ), a manufacturer of temporary point-of-purchase displays, and a design/project management firm specializing in permanent point-of-purchase displays and packaging (thermoforming, acrylic fabrication, wood/wire/metal).
The group’s market approach was that of a “one-stop shop” for POP/POS solutions.
Nova Pack’s role in the Group was to provide the value-added activities of corrugated display assembly and co-pack of products into displays.
Nova Pack broadened its capability beyond assembly and co-pack of displays. It also developed relationships with its own clients. It has moved several times since 1990 – to increasingly bigger, better, higher-level GMP facilities. Staff, equipment, procedures and certifications have all been enhanced over the years to ensure ongoing value for our clients.
Nova Pack became ISO certified (9001-2000) in May of 2002, received its Health Canada Drug Establishment License in September 2004, it’s AIB certification in July 2005, and its Natural Health Products License in February 2007. Nova Pack is continually audited by and approved to work for its range of large multi-national clients.
In January 2011, Nova Pack left the Hughes Group and started working with various display manufacturers, incorporating POP/POS design and manufacturing capabilities as needed. At the same time, Nova Pack became a member company of Accuristix – Canada’s leading Third Party Logistics (3PL) service provider focused in the healthcare space: pharmaceutical, specialty pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, consumer health products, health and beauty aids, natural health products and nutritional segments. Accuristix currently operates many distribution centers across Canada. Nova Pack provides third party Co-pack & Assembly Services, embedded in three of the Accuristix facilities.
In addition to its stand-alone site in Mississauga, Nova Pack is also embedded in the Canadian distribution centre of a multi-national Healthcare/Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) manufacturer in Oakville, providing Assembly & Co-pack Services dedicated to that company’s products.
Our customers are typically world leading multi-national organizations in their respective industries and demand only the best when it comes to the handling of their products.
Nova Pack has a proud tradition of integrity – in dealing with its customers, its employees, and its suppliers. Our Vision – to be the leader in providing contract co-packaging solutions to the health care sector, and our Mission – partnering with our clients to meet the needs of their customers through excellence and innovation – make Nova Pack an outstanding place to work.
2. What are the biggest challenges you face as a packaging company in Canada?
Canada’s geographically and demographically regional markets create fragmentation at a small scale. This brings particular challenges to both regulatory and promotional packaging. Our work is characteristic of small run size, low repeatability, high variability and thus, does not lend itself to automation. Our people are our strength!
3. Tell us one thing about Nova Pack that the consumer health products industry might not know about you.
Nova Pack has a tremendous heritage of INNOVATION, CREATIVITY, ADAPTABILITY and NIMBLENESS. We love to be challenged – bring us your “weird and wonderful” projects!
4. Tell us how you became involved with CHP Canada.
We have been Members since the days of the NDMAC, through the Hughes Group.
