This month’s “Associate Member Spotlight” goes to Canadian Analytical Laboratories Inc. (CAL) for their continued contributions and long-standing involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry. Congratulations CAL!
We conducted a short interview with Christian Sood, CEO of Canadian Analytical Laboratories, which will provide a better understanding of what this great company has to offer:
1. Tell us about Canadian Analytical Laboratories Inc.
CAL is a contract analytical testing laboratory that provides chemical and microbial testing for natural health products, OTCs, Rx pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and foods. The laboratory was established by Manohar and Raminder Sood in 1986 and is one of Canada’s busiest laboratories for natural health product release and stability testing. The laboratory has grown dramatically over the last few years and has invested heavily in modern instrumentation ranging from basic spectroscopy to GC/MS/MS and LC/MS/MS. The latest LC/MS/MS addition provides for super critical fluid extraction abilities providing accurate assay techniques for lipophilic molecules. The laboratory maintains an Establishment License and is US FDA Registered.
2. What are the biggest challenges you face as an analytical testing laboratory in Canada?
One of the biggest challenges we face as an analytical laboratory is having to understand and explain inter-laboratory variations in results for the same analytical method primarily in the natural health product space. Often the manufacturing processes for these types of products are not validated nor are the associated analytical methods. As a result, there exists variations in analytical test results.
3. What are some recent trends that CAL has witnessed in your industry?
The biggest and most important trend that we have observed is the increasing scrutiny of regulatory agencies with respect to data integrity. Our laboratory has recently migrated to a LIMS system. The system implementation and design of the data integrity policies represented a substantial body of work.
4. What do you value most about your involvement with CHP Canada?
We value the privilege to share in a community of like-minded companies that strive to run a high-quality organization while delivering profitable results.
