Meet our Associate Member Spotlight for May: Nucro-Technics

The “Associate Member Spotlight” is a chance for CHP Canada to highlight to Active members and the consumer health products industry the Associate members who have contributed to the achievements of CHP Canada and the success of the consumer health products industry as a whole.

Each month a different Associate member, who has engaged in the Association’s member programs (attends networking events, sponsorships, participates in relevant committees, task forces, etc.), will be put in the “spotlight”. This will include being featured on our website homepage, blog, and newsletter, outlining the fantastic services and/or products the Associate member has available to our Active membership.

This month’s “Associate Member Spotlight” goes to Nucro-Technics for their continued contributions and long-standing involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry. Congratulations Nucro Technics!

We conducted a short interview with John Fanaras, President of Nucro-Technics, which will provide a better understanding of what this great company has to offer:

1. Tell us about Nucro-Technics:

Nucro-Technics has been operating since 1970 providing the OTC, pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device sectors with contract testing and consulting services. The company is located in a 58,000 square foot facility that houses 150 staff, who have decades of experience working with a wide range of compounds.

Nucro-Technics is primarily known for its analytical chemistry and microbiology testing labs where its employees routinely complete projects for most of the CHP Canada member companies. These projects include everything from routine chemistry testing, microbiology testing, and stability storage, to more in-depth activities like developing and validating methods for new product formulations.

Nucro-Technics also has a consulting arm where we offer Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Regulatory Affairs services on a contract basis for our customers. This includes everything from registering DINs and NPNs, obtaining Drug Establishment Licences and Site Licences, conducting third-party audits, to developing full quality systems. Nucro-Technics prides itself on functioning as a “One-Stop Shop” for the needs of the OTC, pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries and this shows how well integrated the service offerings are with each other.

2. What are the biggest challenges that you face as a full service pharmaceutical contract support organization in Canada?

Every customer wants to have the products tested and released to the marketplace yesterday. In order to meet each customer’s needs, each of Nucro-Technics’ departments need to maintain suitable inventories that support the testing, equipment that is qualified and maintained as per regulations, as well as appropriate staffing levels.

Each of these clients may have multiple products whose specifications may require the execution of several methods. With varying customer production schedules, tight deadlines, six internal departments that may be involved (Chemistry, Microbiology, Toxicology, Bioanalytical, Genetic Toxicology, and QA/QC/RA consulting), and the requirement for quick turnaround times, the work can be logistically challenging to coordinate.

3. Tell us one thing about Nucro-Technics the consumer health products industry might not know about you?

Nucro-Technics is in a business that requires us to continuously provide quality work at reasonable prices. Hiring well is the key to being able to consistently accomplish this. Most department directors have been at Nucro-Technics for more than 20 years, and it’s not uncommon for the employees to work within the organization for decades. This depth of experience and know-how has resulted in an incredible amount of institutional client knowledge. This allows the Nucro staff to be able to deal with any problems that may be encountered and it helps the organization provide its customers with a service that is seamless.

4. Tell us how you became involved with CHP Canada?

Nucro-Technics became involved with CHP Canada through its predecessor organization NDMAC (the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association of Canada) at the time of its establishment. This was about 30 years ago, and it was initially done to make contacts within the OTC industry and raise awareness to the member companies about our services.
