Meet our January Associate Member Spotlight: Rogers Publishing (updated)

The “Associate Member Spotlight” is a chance for CHP Canada to highlight to Active members and the consumer health products industry the Associate members who have contributed to the achievements of CHP Canada and the success of the consumer health products industry as a whole.

Each month a different Associate member, who has engaged in the Association’s member programs (attends networking events, sponsorships, participates in relevant committees, task forces, etc.), will be put in the “spotlight”. This will include being featured on our website homepage, blog, and newsletter, outlining the fantastic services and/or products the Associate member has available to our Active membership.

This month’s “Associate Member Spotlight” goes to Rogers Publishing for their continued contributions and involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry. Congratulations Rogers Publishing!

We conducted a short interview with Janet Smith, Group Publisher, Healthcare Group at Rogers Publishing, which will provide a better understanding of what this great company has to offer:

1. Tell us about Rogers Publishing:

Rogers Publishing is best known for its’ consumer titles; Chatelaine, Macleans, Moneysense, Sportsnet, Canadian Business, Flare, Today’s Parent, L’actualité, HELLO! and Canadian Health & Lifestyle. The Healthcare Group, within Rogers Publishing, is Canada’s leading independent healthcare publisher with print and digital titles/brands for pharmacists and doctors; Pharmacy Practice+, Québec Pharmacie,, The Medical Post, L’actualité Pharmaceutique, L’actualité Médicale,, plus our newest print title launching January to 25,000 Quebec Pharmacists AND Physicians, Profession Santé.

2. What are the biggest challenges that you face as a publishing company in Canada?

Print isn’t dead! Print is still a viable and important element to Rogers Publishing, as well as to our healthcare professional (HCP) audiences. Print readership by physicians has increased 15% in the past five years. HCPs still enjoy and value their print journals, however that’s not to say that digital isn’t important… it is. HCPs receive their news, education and practice information from multiple sources; print, digital and events. Our gated portal for physicians, pharmacists, nurses and healthcare managers, / is the #1 visited medical publication website by physicians and pharmacists, with over 100,000 registrants (to login as a guest, please use email: and password: pharmacists). Our inter-professional education hub, is the leading online CE site for pharmacists (since 2006). We offer pharmaceutical brands a large and diverse suite of print, digital, event and research offerings to reach and engage with their HCP target audience(s). 3. Tell us one thing about Rogers Publishing that the consumer health products industry might not know about you?

We have been fielding the annual OTC #1 Counselling and Recommends Study since 1994. This is the benchmark study in Canada, recognized as the leading survey to measure pharmacist and physician recommendations in approximately 70 OTC categories. Results are published in the April issue of Pharmacy Practice+, May 12 issue of The Medical Post and the May issue of Profession Santé. #1 OTC brands are contacted in February to confirm their participation in these publication issues to thank pharmacists and physicians for making them a #1 recommended brand. #1 brand’s can maximize their #1 status by using the #1 recommended logo or claim in their consumer advertising and marketing materials. OTC brands may not be aware that they can purchase a complete 10+ year history of their category and brand results that provides valuable insights and trending into pharmacist and physician recommendations.

Also, Rogers Healthcare Group is the leading print and online pharmacist continuing education (CE) provider. With 40,000 pharmacists, pharmacy students and technicians actively using our print and digital brands to receive their CE units, we deliver the best reach, promotion and results to OTC brands with our turnkey CE program. 4. Tell us how you became involved with CHP Canada?

The Rogers Publishing Consumer group was an associate member, and so the Healthcare Group joined approximately 20 years ago. We take pride in being involved with the association that serves our audiences and clients.
