Meet our November Associate Member Spotlight: Stericycle Inc.

The “Associate Member Spotlight” is a chance for CHP Canada to highlight to Active members and the consumer health products industry the Associate members who have contributed to the achievements of CHP Canada and the success of the consumer health products industry as a whole.

Each month a different Associate member, who has engaged in the Association’s member programs (attends networking events, sponsorships, participates in relevant committees, task forces, etc.), will be put in the “spotlight”. This will include being featured on our website homepage, blog, and newsletter, outlining the fantastic services and/or products the Associate member has available to our Active membership.

This month’s “Associate Member Spotlight” goes to Stericycle Inc. for their continued contributions and involvement with CHP Canada and the consumer health products industry. Congratulations Stericycle!

We conducted a short interview with James Williams, Business Development Director at Stericycle, which will provide a better understanding of what this great company has to offer:

Business units include (1) regulated medical waste management (2) secure product destruction and hazardous waste management (3) reverse logistics including product returns processing, turnkey product recall management, product retrieval, quality audits, mystery shopping and product reclamation (4) communication solutions (call centres) and (5) medical device distribution. For more information, please visit our websites at www.stericycle.com, www.stericycle.ca, www.stericycleexpertsolutions.com.

2. What are the biggest challenges that you face as a multi-service company in Canada?
Although it is not uncommon for Stericycle to provide multiple services to a single client, our biggest challenge is building awareness for our diverse portfolio of services. One of our key objectives is to leverage relationships with leading industry trade associations like CHP Canada to share our story to promote the protection of people and the reduction of corporate risk.

3. Tell us a few things about Stericycle that the consumer health products industry might not know about you?
Stericycle has a tremendous impact on the public that isn’t always obvious. We handle over half a billion kilograms of medical waste every year. Removing infectious material safely on this scale provides an enormous public service in terms of improving overall public health and safety.

Our Canadian based communication centers handle well over 25,000 live conversations every day. The vast majority are linking consumers to client customer services, making Stericycle a strategic partner to the industry segments we operate in.

Stericycle ExpertSOLUTIONS is the only company in Canada that provides a 100% turnkey solution to perform product recalls from cradle to grave with no outsourcing. All critical stages from planning, notification, communications, product logistics to destruction are managed by our in-house experts, which have conducted over 4,000 recalls from a variety of industries.

Our Canadian environmental solutions business destroys north of 50,000 tonnes of consumer products, pharmaceuticals and healthcare products annually. A large percentage of this volume is destroyed via waste to energy incineration facilities that convert super heated steam into electricity that is used to power businesses and homes alike.

Stericycle’s product reclamation business conducts more than 60,000 grocery store visits in Canada per year handling north of 36,000 damaged items with 70% of this volume being donated to members of Food Banks Canada.

4: Tell us how you became involved with CHP Canada?
We became a member ten years ago under the name Product Management Corporation (PMC) when the company was focused on secure product destruction and hazardous waste management. Since the acquisition of PMC by Stericycle five years ago, and with the expansion of our service offering in the Canadian market over this time, we re-engaged with the association when we agreed to host a webinar on product recall best practices in the Spring of 2014. Today, Stericycle Canada provides all services listed above to the consumer products, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, to name a few.

For more information, please contact James Williams, Business Development Director at 647-288-3298 or by email to jwilliams1@stericycle.com.

We’d like to once again thank Stericycle for all of their involvement over the past couple years. If you would like more information on Stericycle, please visit their membership profile page on our website.
